About Buddha Jayanti :-  

This day is celebrated by Buddhists and many Hindus all around the world in the loving memory of Lord Buddha. People celebrate this day for three main reasons-Lord Buddha’s birth, attaining enlightment and passing into nirvana after death. It is believed that all these three things took place in the very day. 

Swayambhunath in Kathmandu Valley, the Buddhist Village of Bungmati (4.5 km south of Patan), Baudhanath Stupa in Baudha and Rato Machendranath of the Kathmandu Valley among many others are the most preferred places for this day as thousands of devotees pay their respect to Lord Buddha. Lots of colorful events like; music, dance, parades, lectures and competitions are arranged on this day at different locations around the country.
